El Toro Zoysia is a distinct variety of zoysia japonica. El Toro zoysia is practically identical in appearance to Meyer Z-52 zoysia; however, it is slightly less dense and has a wider leaf blade. El Toro zoysia was patented and introduced by the University of California in 1980.
